ActivStyle is Now an AdaptHealth Company

We are excited to announce that on July 1, 2020, ActivStyle was acquired by AdaptHealth Corp., a leading provider of home healthcare equipment, medical supplies to the home, and related services in the United States. AdaptHealth provides a full suite of medical products and solutions designed to help patients manage chronic conditions in the home, adapt to life, and thrive.

In regards to the sale, Gayle Devin, ActivStyle CEO, commented, “We are excited to join the AdaptHealth team. Our cultures are aligned, and we have a very compelling value proposition to offer patients, payors, and referrals. These synergies coupled with the resources of AdaptHealth and the combined strengths of our teams will be a winning formula to expand and grow the medical supply business.”

Rest assured, this acquisition will have no impact on day-to-day operations and will be seamless to you and your clients. ActivStyle continues to operate under our well-known brand name. Our management team and staff continue to work with the same integrity, teamwork, and best-in-class patient service that you have come to expect from our company.

FAQs

Q: How long does it take to get a first order shipped?
A: Getting the first order shipped depends on getting a prescription from the patient’s doctor. In most cases, we do need to secure a prescription from the patient’s doctor. This involves faxing a prescription request to the doctor to complete, sign, and send back to ActivStyle. Doctors are busy individuals. So, as you can imagine, this takes a little time. If you, or your client, are able to communicate to the doctor the urgency of responding to ActivStyle’s prescription request, this can help speed the process. Once we receive a valid prescription from the doctor, we will be able to process the order. If it has been less than 14 days since the initial request, we will ship right away. If it has been more than 14 days, we will need to contact the patient to confirm they still need the product before we can ship.

Q: Why is a “prescription” required for incontinence products?
A:
While a doctor does not provide a traditional “prescription” for incontinence supplies, he or she does provide documentation that the supplies are medically necessary. In order for incontinence supplies to be covered by insurance, they must be medically necessary.

Skin Care for Incontinence Patients

People who have problems controlling their urine or bowels (called incontinence) are at risk for skin problems. Skin areas most affected are near the buttocks, hips, genitals, and between the pelvis and rectum (perineum). Excess moisture in these areas makes skin problems such as redness, peeling, irritation, and yeast infections likely.

It’s always better to prevent a problem than to treat one; so, focus on these key areas when helping a patient maintain healthy skin:

Choose the right pads and protective underwear to quickly and thoroughly absorb moisture and keep it away from the skin – especially overnight.

Be sure pads and underwear fit properly. If a protective product is too loose, liquid can leak out before it is fully absorbed. If the garment is too tight, irritation can occur, creating an environment for infection.

Avoid ordinary bar or antibacterial soaps for cleansing the skin. These types of soap can dry the skin in sensitive areas and raise its pH, exacerbating an existing skin condition.

Moisturizing creams can help keep the skin moist. Avoid products that contain alcohol, which may irritate the skin.

Consider using a skin sealant or moisture barrier. Creams or ointments that contain zinc oxide, lanolin, or petrolatum form a protective barrier on the skin. Some skin care products, often in the form of a spray or a towelette, create a clear, protective film over the skin. A provider can recommend barrier creams to help protect the skin.

Now that you know a little about skin care for people who are incontinent, be sure to discuss their proper use with the patient’s doctor and let him or her know if any of the products are not working effectively or are difficult to apply. Doctors can also guide patients in selecting and applying skin care products to protect against painful irritation and dangerous infections of the perineal area.
